| Sakura leaves | A traditional motif for the handle |
| Your name | Written in Japanese letters |
| A picture | Anything your imagination suggests |
Three starting points
Sakura leaves are the traditional choice, your name in Japanese letters is the personal one, and a picture of your own is also welcome.
Help with Japanese
The crew will teach the basics of Japanese writing if you are interested, which is useful when your name has to be rendered in unfamiliar letters.
The name badge
At the start your name is already written on a badge in Japanese letters, so you will have seen how it looks before you engrave it.
Fitting the handle
Once the engraving is done, the handle is attached with a traditional hammer. The sound of the hammer is part of the memory.
Plan the design
Decide what you want while you sharpen, so the handle is not the last thing you think about. Simple shapes work best on a small surface.
A gift from the crew
A custom key-holder with a unique design comes as a present, so there is a second small souvenir to hand to someone at home.
